Meet on media libraries: A two-day national conference organised by the Association of Media Libraries and Archives (www.amla.org.in), in association with the Central Library, New Delhi and Unesco, will be held here from February 4.The meet aims to provide a professional platform to discuss and debate issues of managing media libraries across print, TV, radio and online media.According to Ramesh Gaur, University Librarian, JNU, and chief patron of AMLA, over 200 librarians and other professionals in the field will attend this meet.

DSC Jaipur Literature Festival 2013: The sixth annual DSC Jaipur Literature Festival has been scheduled from January 24 to 28, 2013, at Diggi Palace in Jaipur. IIMC to hold 45th convocation on Jan 15: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) will hold its 45th convocation ceremony in New Delhi on January 15, 2013. I&B Minister Manish Tewari will be the chief guest. The ceremony will award Post Graduate Diplomas in various disciplines to IIMC students spread across various campuses, from the academic year 2011-12. The disciplines include English Journalism, Hindi Journalism, Advertising & Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism and Oriya Journalism. Laadli Media Award: Real Heroes, CNN-IBN’s flagship initiative, has bagged the prestigious Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity, in the Electronic Media category for showcasing outstanding stories of two individuals who are selflessly working for women’s rights. Tridip Mandal, Associate Executive Producer, CNN-IBN, received the award from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at a grand function in Lucknow on December 13, 2012.

Barkha Dutt, Anubha Bhonsle Get Asian Television Awards: NDTV Group Editor Barkha Dutt has won the Best Current Affairs presenter award for We The People with Hillary Clinton at the Asian Television Awards. Asian Television Awards recognises the outstanding achievements of terrestrial broadcasters, cable and satellite networks, and independent production houses in the region. CNN-IBN’s The Citizen Journalist Show has won the award in the Best Cross Platform Content category. This is the third successive Asian Television Award for the show. Anubha Bhonsle, Senior Editor of CNN-IBN, received the award at a grand function held in Singapore on December 6.

Journalism Awards: Twelve journalists got the the Press Council of India's National Awards for Excellence in Journalism. Though no entry could qualify for the top honour — Raja Ram Mohan Roy award — Rajesh Parshuram Joshte of Lokmat, Ratnagiri, bagged the ‘Stree Shakti’ award for reporting on women’s issues. Those who got the awards included The Indian Express photographer Partha Paul, The Times of India’s Lattur Shankar and Asian Age’s Biplab Banerjee, India Today’s Damyanti Dutta and Tehelka’s Priyanka Dubey.

First community newspaper: ‘Namaskar’ – the first purely community produced and managed newspaper – has been recently launched in Konark on October 1, 2012. The 16-page fortnightly tabloid under patronisation of Naseem Ahmed Shah Ansari, the chief functionary of Odisha’s first community radio centre ‘Radio Namaskar’, is not just a newspaper, but a forum for the people of Gop block in the state's Puri district. According to the management of the paper, it empowers common people and the local community with the basic tools to do reporting for it, to do the editing and manage the newspaper.

Ex-Outlook journo is new Readers’ Editor of The Hindu: A S Panneerselvan, the former Madras correspondent for Outlook magazine is the new Readers’ Editor of The Hindu. Paneerselvan, 49, was with Sun TV as managing editor before moving on to be executive director of Panos South Asaia. The Hindu is the only newspaper in India that has institutionalised the office of the Readers’ Editor. K Narayanan, a veteran journalist and former News Editor of The Hindu, was appointed the newspaper’s first Readers’ Editor in 2006. He was succeeded by S Viswanathan, who retired in June 2012.

Press Council institutes awards: The Press council of India (PCI) has extended the deadline of sending entries for its newly instituted National Awards to promote excellence in print media. Nominations can now be sent till September 20, 2012. The earlier deadline was August 16, 2012. Press Council institutes awards: To encourage journalism with responsibility, the Press Council of India has decided to institute its own 'National Awards for Excellence in Journalism'. Among the categories under which the Press Council has instituted the awards are the Raja Rammohan Roy National Award for Excellence in Journalism, which would carry a cash component of Rs 100,000. Other awards instituted by the Council related to Rural Journalism, Developmental Reporting, 'Stree Shakti' and photo journalism which contain a cash component of Rs 50,000 each. Nomination is open to all journalists and freelancers of Indian nationality. The nomination has to be made by the editor of the newspaper/ news agency. Mumbai Journalist Selected for Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow: The International Women’s Media Foundation has selected Priyanka Borpujari, a Mumbai-based journalist, as the 2012-13 IWMF Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow. Borpujari is the eighth recipient of the annual fellowship, which gives a woman journalist working in print, broadcast or online media the opportunity to build skills while focusing exclusively on human rights journalism and social justice issues.

AFP, Huffington Post win Pulitzers: AFP's Massoud Hossaini on Monday won Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography for his heartbreaking image of a girl crying in fear after a suicide bomber's attack at a crowded shrine in Kabul.News websites Huffington Post and Politico also won their first Pulitzer Prizes as the prestigious journalism awards highlighted global issues and online reporting.

Welthungerhilfe India invites entries for articles on women's rights: Welthungerhilfe India has invited entries for the media award for the best published article in English/Hindi in mainstream/alternate media on issues related to women’s access to land rights and literacy among the rural poor especially the tribals and the Dalits.

The best published article will include a quality analysis of the issues highlighting the linkages of land and literacy with respect to the women. The articles would have to be published over the months of October 2011 to February 2012, to be eligible. The Award will be announced in the month of April and will carry a cash prize of Rs 50,000 for the best published article followed by two cash prizes of Rs 25,000 each for the next two best published articles. The last date for submission is March 31, 2012.
