Jesus & Mary College (JMC), the best ranking college for arts and commerce studies under Delhi University, has introduced media studies add-on course from the 2014 academic session.

JMC has recent;y signed an MoU with the Delhi-based RK Films & Media Academy (RKFMA) for introduction of add-on course in Media Studies.The admissions in the six months joint certificate course in Media Studies are open to all students with minimum 10+2 qualification. The College may also consider application of male candidates however their admission shall be confirmed upon a screening by JMC. The tuition fee for the course is Rs15,000/-

The first phase of submission of application will close by August 22, 2014 (Friday).

Students from other colleges, universities and institutes can also apply. The classes of the newly-introduced media course shall commence after the regular College hours.

DU's 6 Colleges Offer Journalism & Mass Comm Course

Delhi University has started the process of admission for its undergraduate courses for the 2014-15 academic session. The last date for application is June 16. The university's six colleges that offer Bachelor with honours in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) are Kamala Nehru College, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), Kalindi College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) and Indraprastha College for Women.

Last year, the cut off marks for the Journalism course were above the 90 percent mark in all the six colleges offering the course.

Delhi University's four colleges-- Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi College of Arts & Commerce, IP College for Women and Kamala Nehru College for Women -- have figured in a recent list of the Top 10 Mass-Communication colleges in India compiled by India Today.

The India Today Media Institute (ITMI) has announced admissions for academic year 2014-15. The institute provides internship in its state-of-the-art studios as trainees not only hone their news sense but also learn the technology and other applications such as on-camera reporting and anchoring.

IIMC Commences Course in Urdu Journalism

To sharpen the skills of media professionals working in Urdu language, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication has begun a five-month Diploma Course in Urdu Journalism.

According to the I&B ministry statement, the course aims to improve proficiency of journalists working in Urdu language newspapers and capabilities of media professionals in the language. The course currently initiated by IIMC was non-residential and focused on contemporary trends and practices in the field of journalism, use of technology, copy-writing and writing for TV.

IIMC invited applications on September 16 by placing advertisements in leading Hindi and Urdu newspapers. The entrance exam for the Urdu Journalism Course was held on October 20 and interviews were held on November 9. The course commenced on December 2 with eight students and is expected to be completed in April next year.

The initiative was taken after I&B minister Manish Tewari held discussions with journalists and editors at All India Conference of Urdu Editors. During the discussions, the representatives of the Urdu media had requested the minister to initiate skill and capacity building measures through short term courses in the medium.
